Månfestival med Mooncake

Det finns tre olika ”golden weeks” här i Kina, dvs vissa angivna semesterveckor där alla i hela landet är lediga samtidigt. En av dessa är den första veckan i oktober och ledigheten inleds med ”the Moon Festival” där det finns lite olika sägner om anledningen till varför man firar denna. Det här är en:

“The time of this story is around 2170 B.C. The earth once had ten suns circling over it, each took its turn to illuminate to the earth. But one day all ten suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved by a strong and tyrannical archer Hou Yi. He succeeded in shooting down nine of the suns. One day, Hou Yi stole the elixir of life from a goddess. However his beautiful wife Chang Er drank the elixir of life in order to save the people from her husband's tyrannical rule. After drinking it, she found herself floating and flew to the moon. Hou Yi loved his divinely beautiful wife so much he didn't shoot down the moon. You might see her dancing on the moon during the Moon Festival.

The Moon Festival is also an occasion for family reunions. When the full moon rises, families get together to watch the full moon, eat moon cakes, and sing moon poems. With the full moon, the legend, the family and the poems, you can't help thinking that this is really a perfect world. That is why the Chinese are so fond of the Moon Festival.”

En tradition är då att att alla äter Moon Cake och Nisse fick högtidligen kvittera ut sin kaka som han fick i present på jobbet. Själva idén verkar vara att själva förpackningen ska se mkt dyr och påkostad ut, samt att innehållet är stiligt presenterat. Det verkar inte vara så många bland de lite yngre som verkligen tycker om att äta den dock; den är rätt sötsliskig och stabbig och inget man intar med någon större behållning.

Hur som helst; vi passar på och flyr landet (att resa runt i Kina funkar liksom inte, då xxx miljoner kineser ska åka hem till sina familjer vid exakt samma tid). Vi far till Thailand en vecka på semester – åter den 8:e oktober.
